OFF-PEAK play information
We’re open Tues – Sat every week*. OFF-PEAK is any weekday during term time.
We have no timed sessions during term-time weekdays, we’re open 9.30am – 2.30pm and you can turn up anytime and stay as long as you want (up to 2.30pm). Bookings are not required, just pay at the door.
*Please see our opening hours to check our full opening times throughout the year.
We decide our Peak and Off-Peak times based on the Somerset school timetables. We would not usually alter peak/off-peak times based on any other dates (such as school strikes or inset days), unless all schools are affected. If you have any doubts about an ad-hoc date, simply check the PEAK day booking calendar to see if that date is showing.

PEAK play Information
We’re open Tues – Sat every week*. PEAK times are every Saturday + school holidays
Play is split into two-hour sessions with an hour’s break in-between for cleaning/sterilising. The session times are:
09.30 – 11.30
12.30 – 14.30
15.30 – 17.30 (this session depends on trade and other events)
All two-hour sessions should be pre-booked. You can still turn up and pay at the door but peak days are our busiest times, so we always recommend pre-booking to guarantee a slot. It is also more expensive to pay at the door as a walk-in customer. If you’d still like to pay on the door you must check the booking calendar just before you arrive to check that a session is actually running. The calendar also tells you how many spaces are remaining, or if a session is already full.
Every person in your party must be booked in at the time of booking – if you arrive with more people than have been booked, and we’re already full, they may be turned away.

Session Information
We offer a two-hour exclusive slot every day we’re open, dedicated to private sessions only. You have the whole centre to yourself, it will be closed to the public. Pay the above fixed price for the slot regardless of how many people you’re inviting (up to our centre capacity obviously)*, which makes it superb value.
The normal slot time for private hire is 4-6pm, Tues – Sat
Private sessions are bookable up to a year in advance but dates less than 12 days away are blocked, as we need time to arrange staff cover, etc. If you’d like a last-minute private booking (less than 12 days notice) please contact us to check availability. Our standard play session, 3.30 – 5.30pm, will obviously be removed if we have a private booking instead.
Remember, it’s a fixed price for the session regardless of how many guests you invite! And you can use the session however you wish. Most bookings will be for a private party, so just let us know how many children you expect and we’ll set up the relevant number of party tables and chairs. You can decorate the centre as you wish (following our T&Cs) and you are allowed to bring your own party food for the celebrations. But it’s not just suitable for parties; maybe you’d like an after-school private play session for your child and their classmates, with all parents sharing the cost, making it potentially cheaper than even a normal session? Or a large family gathering? Or a private play session for your playgroup or work colleagues and their families? All our normal rules apply and our cafe is open as normal.
*Capacity
We doubt you’d ever completely fill our venue for your own private session but if you are planning a particularly large gathering (+100 people), please contact us first.
See our private session terms and conditions before booking. You have the option to pay in full or pay a deposit only.

We have a monthly session dedicated to families who have an autistic young person known to our local Children’s Autism Outreach Team (CAOT). The sessions run on the 2nd Wednesday of every month, 4-6pm (except school holidays)
These monthly sessions will be hosted by the Children’s Autism Outreach Team (CAOT) of Somerset council. The CAOT Team support families throughout Somerset who have an autistic young person/child and The Square will be a place they can continue their work with families. It is important that you are known to the CAOT service, and your young person / child has a diagnosis of autism before booking with us. They can be contacted via BAMills@somerset.gov.uk or you can call Barbara on 07584175261 for more information.
The CAOT team is very busy so, regrettably, only families residing in Somerset can register and attend these sessions.
Once registered, you can then book any of the sessions showing on the CAOT group booking calendar. CAOT families pay a vastly reduced rate from our standard play sessions. You only pay for the children at these sessions (babies under 18 months and adults are free) and the children’s price is only £5. All guests (once approved by CAOT) should be pre-booked prior to the session, including babies and adults, so we can track the total number of visitors.
We realise that many people don’t want a large, organised party or private hire and would rather have an informal, unofficial party during a normal play session. Many play centres don’t allow this (or charge a premium for it) but we welcome unofficial parties at no additional cost, as long as a few basic rules are observed. You must read all of the following information before visiting us.
If you’re going to visit during off-peak times
Please let us know beforehand. Off-peak times are pay-at-the-door, so you have two options:
- Let each guest pay for themselves
You must tell them this before they arrive. Although off-peak days, by definition, are usually much quieter, we cannot reserve spaces that have not been paid for, so you take the risk that some guests may not get in if we suddenly fill up. - Pay for all guests yourself
This is the usual way but you will then need to either:- Pay up-front for all the guests you are expecting
We will tick them off as they arrive. We cannot give a refund for any no-shows, as we may have to refuse other customers entry on busier days if we have added your expected guests to the total capacity. - Pay for each guest as they arrive – this will require you to stay at the entrance until all of your guests are here, as staff cannot come to find you each time. You take the risk that some guests may not get in if we suddenly fill up.
- Pay up-front for all the guests you are expecting
If you’re going to visit during peak times,
Simply book all of the spaces you need on our PEAK play sessions calendar.
Basic rules
- You may bring a small amount of props/decorations but for your own table only, and they must be removed afterwards.
- Props/decorations must not cause disturbance, hazard or unreasonable mess. As an example, items not allowed during normal sessions would be: music, pinãtas, party poppers, glitter, face paint, etc. If in doubt, please ask us before booking
- You may bring a birthday cake but it must not be consumed on site. Please portion and give to children for consumption off site.
- You may not bring any other food or drink.
- You must pre-book all expected guests, including parents. We cannot be held responsible if unbooked guests arrive and we are already fully booked.
- You must explain to all guests that they are attending a normal play session, as unofficial parties often cause confusion at the entrance. Some examples of regular confusion:
– Parents expect to drop-off their children for the party at the entrance?
– Guests turn up with siblings who haven’t been booked?
– Guests know the party child’s name but not the name on the actual booking?
– Guests bring their own food or drink - We cannot stress this point enough: you may book for as many people as you like (within our session capacities), but you must not move around furniture or reserve whole sections of seating. During play sessions we have to maintain safe pedestrian routes, play routes and emergency exit routes and our furniture is laid out to ensure this. Even more so as unofficial parties tend to happen during our busiest sessions. This is why all play centres either have separate party areas or, like us, offer exclusive hire of the whole play centre. We have two larger tables that can seat up to 8 people but all other tables in our centre are 4s or 2s. Whilst you may be able to get all guests onto adjacent tables please be aware that some of your guests may end up in a different area.
